Professor Rei is an economic historian whose research concentrates on early modern Europe at the onset of overseas merchant empires. She is currently investigating the origins of the different organizational forms across merchant empires, and also analyzing the consequences of such institutional arrangements, using archival data on labor compensation and naval technology.
