The application deadline for Fall 2013 admission is December 15, 2012. In order to encourage applicants to utilize the Online Application System, the Graduate School has waived the application fee for electronic submissions.

As part of the on-line application, candidates will provide:

*Statement of Purpose*A minimum of three letters of recommendation (and no more than five).
*An unofficial, scanned College Transcript(s) and Graduate Transcript(s) if applicable. Admitted applicants will be instructed to submit official and final transcripts as a condition of enrollment at Vanderbilt.
*Recent GRE examination scores (no older than five years). GRE codes: Vanderbilt 1871

Note: The Subject Test is not required.

In addition, candidates are asked to send a writing sample, in hard copy, directly to Jane Anderson, Graduate Secretary, Vanderbilt University, Department of History, PMB 351802, 2301 Vanderbilt Place, Nashville, TN 37235-1802. Undergraduate research papers and theses, especially those that show facility in using original and/or archival materials, are of most use to the admissions committee in making their decisions.

Please contact Jane Anderson ( jane.a.anderson@vanderbilt.edu ) with any questions about the application process. As December 15th approaches, you may want to e-mail or call her to determine whether all of your credentials have been received and if your application is considered "officially submitted" by the Graduate School.
