2. URGENT Need Signature for letter/paid ad to Support Guatemalan Genocide Case
As you probably know, the historic Rios Montt genocide conviction was annulled by the Guatemalan Constitutional Court. The Guatemalan Genocide took the lives of 200,000 men, women, children and elderly. It is estimated that there are 5,000 children among the 50,000 forcibly disappeared during the Guatemalan Genocide. I urge you to join us in supporting the Guatemalan people as they struggle for legal justice.
Lawyers for the genocide victims and all Guatemalans committed to justice continue in their struggle to convict those responsible for genocide and crimes against humanity. Please support them today by signing (and asking your friends to sign) this open letter (to be signed by Guatemalans and Internationals) that will be published in Guatemala. Text attached and at bottom of email in Spanish and English.
Please email Yes, plus your name, title, & country ASAP to

4. MA STUDENT LOOKING FOR RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES IN GUATEMALA THIS SUMMER
My name is Andrew Bentley and I am a second-year MA student in Spanish at Syracuse University. I am conducting informal research in Guatemala this summer. I will be in Guatemala City from approximately July 16th-26th. There, I am interested in studying globalization and urban renewal projects, as well as the indigenous presence in the city. From the July 29th-approximately August 9th, I will be in the highlands (Chichicastenango, Lake Atitlán region, and the Queztaltenango area). I am interested in taking on an ethnographic approach to examine contemporary life of indigenous peoples, their movements, and interactions with outside groups [i.e, mestizos and tourists] . I will then return to Guatemala City until around the 15th of August. I realize that I am arriving right after the GSN conference in Antigua. If any other fellow GSNers would be in similar areas around the same time, have similar research projects, or would simply like to meet to discuss research/give advice, I would be greatly appreciative. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. I hope to meet some of you this summer in Guatemala.
