Establishing positive connections with alumni creates stronger chapters. The alumni relations chair should work to create and strengthen the relationship between alumni and undergraduate members. Alumni can be a tremendous resource for networking, career mentoring and support for the undergraduate chapter.
As a part of the Vanderbilt University Fraternity & Sorority Standards all chapters are expected to meet the following areas related to alumni involvement:
- Chapter has an active alumni/ae advisory board or graduate chapter advisor(s)
- Chapter hosts at least one event for or with alumni/ae each year. Examples include but are not limited to a Homecoming Tailgate or Founder’s Day Celebration that is publicized and open to all alumni/ae
- Chapter communicates with chapter alumni/ae via newsletters, emails, websites, or other useful means at least once each semester
In order to assist with alumni communication, mailing labels can be obtained by contacting Karen Seezen in the Office of Greek Life. Requests for labels can take 2-3 weeks to arrive, so it is important to make requests well in advance.
Alumni, parents and friends have the opportunity to provide financial support to their fraternity or sorority by giving to Vanderbilt. Tax deductible gifts may be given through Vanderbilt for Greek organizations to support renovation projects, house improvements and upgrades, educational programming and a variety of other chapter needs.
If alumni are interested in giving a gift to Vanderbilt to benefit a specific chapter, they can do so by including the chapter name on their check and sending it to:
The Vanderbilt Fund Office
2301 Vanderbilt Place
Nashville, TN 37240-7727
Alumni can also give online, by clicking here. They must click “other” in the area they would like to support and include the chapter name in the special comments area.
If you have questions about the use of gifts, please contact Kristin Shorter, Director of Greek Life or Claudia Hazelwood, Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations.
