![]() Wu-Man & Chinese Shawm BandThursday, February 77:30 p.m. Celebrate Chinese New Year with the internationally renowned pipa virtuoso, Wu-Man. The pipa, a lute-like Chinese instrument, has a history of more than two thousand years. Recognized as an outstanding exponent of the traditional repertoire, Wu Man was brought up in the Pudong School of pipa playing, one of the most prestigious classical styles of Imperial China. She is also considered a leading interpreter of pipa music by today's contemporaries such as Terry Riley, Philip Glass, Lou Harrison, Tan Dun, and Bright Sheng while collaborating with notables like Yo-Yo Ma. Meet Wu-Man in an evening with the compelling Chinese Shawm Band, a family group from northern China and rooted in the musical legacy of generations of the Chinese gypsy peasant tradition. |
