José Torres-Tama Performance Art
Aliens, Immigrants, & Other Evildoers
Wednesday, October 5
7:30 p.m.
Student Life Center Ballroom
On the move again and not for the faint of heart, radical Latino performance artist and National Public Radio guest commentator, José Torres Tama performs his Sci-fi Latino Noir Mulitimedia Solo. The work satirizes the status of Latinos as aliens while exploring the rise in hate crimes against these individuals in the United States. In numerous bilingual characters, Torres-Tama shape-shifts in multiple identities challenging the flaws and labor exploitation in a country that also vilifies this same population in the process.
“Torres-Tama treads that dangerously vague turf of performance art gracefully…with dexterity and daring…” –The Village Voice, New York
