Nrityagram Dance Ensemble

From the Heart of India

Nashville, TN – Thursday, March 25 at 7:30pm Great Performances at Vanderbilt brings Nrityagram Dance Ensemble to Vanderbilt’s Ingram Hall.

The philosophy of Nrityagram believes that dance is a way of life, a matter of faith and belief, nurtured and enriched by the souls of its own people. The Dance Ensemble are graduates of Nrityagram Dance Village, a living dance collective near Bangalore founded in 1990 and determined to preserving the 2,000 year traditions of Indian Dance. The dances pay homage to the ancient form of Odissi full of sensuousness and lyricism reflective of Orissa motifs in temple sculpture. Now recognized worldwide, the ensemble is regarded as one of the foremost dance companies of India with commissions by India’s leading composers of classical Indian music.

A Master Class by the company will be offered the evening prior to the main stage event on Wednesday, March 24 from 5:30-7p.m. in cooperation with the Vanderbilt Dance Program at Memorial Gymnasium.
