Black Grace Dance Company

Wednesday, April 9

7:30 p.m.
Ingram Hall

The all-male troupe Black Grace Dance Company boasts some of New Zealand's finest and most respected contemporary dancers. Predominantly Pacific Island and Maori in heritage, the company is renowned for its unique ability to combine their traditional and contemporary dance forms.

Since its 1995 inception, this fusion of forms is what sets the company apart from other professional dance companies in New Zealand. Based in Auckland, this relatively young troupe has developed a cross over audience from the Pacific Island, Maori and European communities in their home country.

The name Black Grace, is derived from a New Zealand slang word for daring and bravery. Black Grace's hybrid approach is percussive, rugged, athletic and spiritual. They return to the United States after their first critically acclaimed tour.
