College of Arts and Science
Summer Research Awards
The College of Arts and Science Summer Research Award (SRA) Program is designed to help graduate students with outstanding potential to accelerate progress toward scholarly publications based on their research. Given the availability of 12-month stipends for doctoral programs, SRAs will support summer projects which need additional funds. These awards of up to $2,000 will be given on a competitive basis with preference given to projects clearly designed with the goal of publication. Requests for funding exceeding this amount will be considered, but will need strong support and justification.
Eligibility:
Doctoral students in good standing making satisfactory progress toward the degree are eligible for the SRA. The funds are intended to support summer research for the dissertation or dissertation proposal; archival research or field work; programs to improve required second language skills or analytic capabilities; proposals for creative uses of funding to enhance research are welcomed. Funds are not to be used to support either Vanderbilt coursework or preparation for qualifying examinations. A student may receive this award no more than twice during his or her career at Vanderbilt.
