International Business German Exam

Offered in conjunction with German 216: Business German

Certificate in German for the Professions
Zertifikat Deutsch für den Beruf (ZDfB)

Are you interested in using your German skills in international relations, law, finance, or a position in the corporate world after graduation? The German Department at Vanderbilt offers an exam in Business German that will add an attractive credential to your resume.

The Goethe-Institut provides this exam to test your German against international standards. You will receive the Zertifikat Deutsch für den Beruf (ZDfB), or Certificate in German for the Professions, upon successful completion of this language exam. Corporations recognize the ZDfB certificate throughout the world. The ZDfB shows that you have the necessary German skills to cope with everyday business situations. It is evidence that you can understand basic texts on business topics, handle routine correspondence, and have the intercultural knowledge necessary to react appropriately in everyday discussions within the workplace.

You can take the exam in spring in conjunction with German 216.

It takes just under three hours and consists of written and oral components:

Written component:
• grammar and vocabulary
• reading comprehension
• listening comprehension
• correspondence

Oral component:
• self-presentation
• explanation of a chart
• role-play
