Requirements
Undergraduate students in their sophomore year with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or better and sufficient knowledge of German are eligible to apply for the Regensburg Program. Hence, three semesters of college German (completion of German 103) or the equivalent with grades of B or better is mandatory for a successful participation. Students should consult with their academic advisers to determine whether general and concentration requirements can be completed on schedule. Good academic, financial and disciplinary standing is a basis for applying in this or any Vanderbilt Study Abroad Program. Although students enrolled in German courses are given preference, students from other departments and also from institutions other than Vanderbilt are welcome to apply if they fulfill the requirements.
Application
Deadline for the spring 2008 program is September, 10th, 2007. Applying early is recommended. Late applicants will be given consideration, if spaces are still available. Applications are complete with:
* application form (link)
* official transcript
*brief essay in German (no more than 2 pages)
* recommendation letter from a current or recent instructor in German
Applicants from institutions other than Vanderbilt must also submit a letter of recommendation from their Dean stating they are in good academic, financial and disciplinary standing with their institution. Applications cannot be processed until all materials have been received.
Costs
In addition to Vanderbilt tuition, there is a $3,250 program fee covering the cost of housing and an extensive cultural-events program with trips to the surrounding area. Vanderbilt students’ scholarships or financial aid may be applied toward the program. Students should take additional living expenses into consideration:
Food: $300-400 per month
Incidentals: $200-300 per month
Books for courses: $100-200 per semester
Make sure to bring enough money to cover all expenses for the first month. Although credit cards are accepted in Germany, it is still more useful to pay in cash. There are automated tellers all over the city, accepting international cards. Click here and here for more information.
