I am originally from California and received my Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Literature and German Studies with a minor in Jewish Studies from UC Irvine in 2009. As a non-traditional student I dabbled in music and a few other languages at various community colleges while I worked as a drafter before I decided to return to school to study German. In 2006, I entered UC Irvine on a Chancellor’s Scholarship. The following summer I traveled to New York to participate in the Uriel Weinreich Summer Program in Yiddish a six-week immersion program in Yiddish language and Jewish culture sponsored by the YIVO Center for Jewish Studies and New York University. The next fall I interned at the International Center for Writing and Translation on campus. This center awards translation grants and hosts conferences to bring attention to endangered languages and the importance of linguistic rights. My last excursion was in spring 2008 to Göttingen, Germany where I concentrated only on German!

My current interests have to do with identity and language as they are represented in literature, particularly the voices of minority groups and those of mixed heritage. At Vanderbilt I hope to be able to combine most of my interests and previous experiences into a productive field of study.
