I am originally from the former Yugoslavia. Before I immigrated to the United States in 1998, I spent seven years in Berlin. German experience continues to be a major influence in my life, which affected my undergraduate education. In 2002, I completed my Bachelor of Arts at Western Kentucky University, and studied abroad for a semester at the “Pädagogische Akademie des Bundes” in Vienna. This was a crucial step in my decision toward a career goal in teaching a foreign language. In 2005, I received a Master of Arts in German at the University of Kentucky; I am currently a first year Ph.D. student in German at Vanderbilt University.

My primary research interest is 19th Century German literature with an emphasis in “Early German Nationalism” from the period of 1805–1919. I am also interested in the interdisciplinary aspect of politics and media in contemporary Austrian literature, with concentration on Peter Handke and his controversial reaction to the Balkan conflicts.
