University of Warwick - Coventry
at-a-glance:
If you’re looking for a university vibrant with political activism and modeled on modern innovation, the University of Warwick is an excellent choice. Warwick was one of the first British universities to develop close links with the business community, and has been successful in the commercialization of research. According to U.S. President Bill Clinton, who chose Warwick as the venue for his last major presidential foreign policy address in 2000, "Warwick is one of Britain's newest and finest research universities.” Similarly, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has described the school as “a beacon among British universities for its dynamism, quality and entrepreneurial zeal.”
academics

Founded in 1965, the University of Warwick has developed into one of the U.K.’s most successful universities. The academic year is divided into three academic terms. You may study for the fall term, two terms during the spring, or the full year. Students are encouraged, however, to spend the full academic year at the university because part-year students, particularly those enrolling in the spring, may have restrictions on departments in which they can study or courses that they can take.
Warwick offers twenty-eight academic departments, with the business and economics departments ranking among the best in the UK. All business and management courses are accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Warwick was the first business school in the U.K. and only the third in Europe to hold this accreditation. Many popular choices for Vanderbilt students in the past have included History, Political Science, and Human and Organizational Development. student life
The University of Warwick, located in the heart of England, offers outstanding facilities to its students. Warwick’s Arts Centre, the largest outside of London, gives students plenty of opportunities to see world class theatre, music and film. The libraries offer excellent resources for students, with the main library holding 800,000 volumes and 5,000 current periodicals. Sixty acres of outdoor sports fields and a wide array of indoor athletic facilities are available to students. The student union at Warwick is the third largest and most active in the U.K. With over 250 societies, the union houses a nightclub and several cafes, a student radio station, and an International Students’ Association. A rarity in England, Warwick offers a true campus experience, including a medical center, supermarket, post office, drugstore, banks, travel agency, and laundry facilities right on campus, but also with all of the buildings well within walking distance of each other.
Each year in January, the University of Warwick hosts One World Week, the world's largest student-run international event. For art enthusiasts, Warwick Arts center, the second largest arts center in the UK, is situated at the center of the University’s main campus. And for everyday appeal, the Student’s Union runs nightly entertainment in its various live music, comedy, and social clubs.
housing
Students are housed on campus in either a residence hall or flat, all of which provide a short walking distance to class. A majority of the 5,500 rooms located on campus are single study-bedrooms, some with their own private bathrooms. All halls share a kitchen and a common area. While one hall offers a flexible mean plan, all of the other halls require that students either cook for themselves or buy their meals on campus.
location

Surrounded by woodlands and a modern residential area, the University of Warwick occupies 750 acres of land on the edge of Coventry, a medieval city that lies in the heart of England. Although World War II brought severe devastation and destruction to the city, it has since been reconstructed into a bustling city with world renowned businesses and up-scale shopping centers.
Coventry’s central location makes it an excellent base for exploration and travel beyond campus. The historic city of Warwick, a mere ten miles from campus, boasts the impressive Warwick Castle, the finest medieval fortress in Great Britain. Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, is located only fifteen miles from campus. A twenty minute bus ride will bring you to Birmingham’s enormous shopping centre and an hour and twenty minute train ride to Central London makes an easy trip to the capital for the day.
