Since its founding in 1949, the University of New South Wales has set the pace in numerous academic areas, particularly in science, engineering, and technology. Proudly describing itself as “Australia’s most international campus”, the campus boasts more than 8,800 international students. However, in spite of its size, the university manages to maintain an eighteen-to-one faculty to student ratio and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. With its ideal location in the beautiful and culturally diverse city of Sydney, New South Wales continues to be an excellent destination for students.

academics

student life

Consistently ranked as one of the best universities in the country, the University of New South Wales also has the longest running study abroad program in Australia. This international flavor is evident in the university’s 40,000 students, who enjoy diversity and liveliness in a relaxed atmosphere and a high faculty-to-student ratio.

Set in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, the campus offers the benefits of big-city living at a slightly less hectic pace. The university also has world-class performing arts facilities and excellent sports facilities. Outside of campus, you can head into bustling Sydney or travel to the beauty of the Royal National Park or the Blue Mountains, two of the most popular destinations for outdoor activity in Australia.

housing

Students may choose to live in a residential college or off-campus housing. Most IFSA-Butler students live in off-campus housing within walking distance of Coogee Beach. This housing is self-catering and has kitchen facilities for cooking meals.

location

A spectacular location on the harbor and vast cultural and ethnic diversity are just two of the reasons that Sydney is such a great city for students. It buzzes with the influence of different cultures. Recent immigrants from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, as well as a large Aboriginal population, add to the vibrancy of the city. Beaches offer water sports of all kinds, while, restaurants, theaters, and clubs provide entertainment.

The University of New South Wales is located at Kensington, just about four and a half miles from Sydney’s central business district. The Kensington Campus is a twenty-minute walk from the beach and a thirty-minute bus ride from the city center or Circular Quay.
