Students may study at Trinity for a full year or just spring term. Participants will take all of their courses within the schools or departments to which they are admitted. In most cases, students are permitted to take courses in no more than two schools or departments.

Trinity is proud of its small classes and high faculty-to-student ratio. Academics focus on traditional subjects, and all of the departments at Trinity are excellent. The Samuel Beckett Centre for Drama and Theatre Studies is particularly outstanding. Be aware that study abroad students are not allowed to take theatre performance classes, though they are allowed to take theory classes.

student life

A majestic university in the middle of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin boasts some of the best academics in the country. Trinity has produced many of Ireland's finest philosophers and writers, including George Berkeley, Dean Swift, Douglas Hyde, and Oscar Wilde. The Trinity College Library is the largest research library in Ireland and is home to the eighth-century Book of Kells.

Set on forty acres of green quadrangles in the middle of Dublin, this university of 12,000 students sits near museums, libraries, theatres, cinemas, shops, and restaurants, including those of Temple Bar. Student societies and sports abound at Trinity, so you'll be able to meet other students and take advantage of the campus facilities.

housing

Housing is in off-campus IFSA-Butler accommodation, approximately twenty minutes by foot from campus. Meals are available in the dining halls, cafeterias, and bars on campus, or you can choose to dine in the Commons at a semiformal meal each day that begins with Latin grace. The student accommodation also has kitchen facilities where you can cook your own meals.

location

Dublin, the capital city of the Republic of Ireland, is a warm, welcoming, cosmopolitan place. The most European of Irish cites, Dublin offers a taste of the Continent as well as of Ireland. This city of one million people prizes its active cultural life and beautifully preserved buildings.

Nearly one third of the Irish population lives in Dublin, and half of the country’s people age twenty-six and younger live there. That sense of youth energizes the city. In fact, Dublin offers so much entertainment that the city has become a weekend destination for young people throughout Europe.

Dublin is an excellent starting point for traveling the country. Trains and buses run from Dublin to all major cities in Ireland. Ferries depart from Dublin daily for Wales and the Isle of Man. Flights with economical student fares leave regularly from Dublin International Airport.
