Australian National University, located in the capital city of Canberra, is one of Australia’s most prestigious universities, with a research focus that augments its outstanding teaching. As a smaller university of 13,000 domestic and international students, ANU can give you personal attention and the liveliness of a diverse student base. The campus offers incredible facilities, including the fastest supercomputer in the Southern Hemisphere, an astronomy observatory, and excellent performing arts venues. Australia’s national libraries and art galleries are conveniently located nearby.
The ANU Student's Association sponsors social and cultural activities and numerous sports clubs. Be sure to take advantage of the boathouse, courts, playing fields, and sports complex, which includes two indoor climbing walls!

Students live in one of ANU’s residential colleges. Each college is its own community, and you can take advantage of their musical, social, and athletic activities. Some colleges offer meal plans, while others are self-catered.

Canberra is vibrant and diverse, with a young population and a tranquil but cosmopolitan lifestyle. The capital city of Australia is beautifully laid out and full of impressive architecture and perfectly tended parks and lawns. Some of Australia’s greatest treasures are here-the National Gallery, the National Library, and the National Museum of Australia are all just a short ride from the university. Canberra is also home to the Australian War memorial, and the Australian Institute of Sports offers the best facilities in the Southern Hemisphere.
Because of its cosmopolitan population, the city has many cafes and eateries of all ethnic types. Canberra is home to two universities, so the city has a lively student population and a great nightlife.
Canberra is part of the Australian Capital Territory, the Australian equivalent of Washington DC. The city’s central location makes it the perfect home base for exploring the rest of the country. Just a half hour south are the bushwalking trails and picnic grounds of the Namagdi National Park, which makes up nearly half of the Australian Capital Territory. Sydney is three hours by car, and Canberra sits balanced just ninety minutes from the coast and ninety minutes from the ski areas. Canberra is a great place to experience a variety of activities city life, beaches, sports and outdoor adventure.
