Charges for study abroad:
ALL participants in Vanderbilt direct-credit programs will pay:
1. Vanderbilt Tuition - Academic Year 2008-2009: $18,050 per semester
2. Program Fee pays for
- housing,
- included program excursions,
- costs for administrative work, etc.
Currently, fees generally range in amount from $0 to $6,750 and this is due to differences in the costs of living in our program locations.
3. $10 Activity Fee (academic year students only)
Vanderbilt-in-, CET, exchange, and independent program participants also pay:
4. HTH Health Insurance - provides excellent medical coverage including medical evacuation and repatriation of remains, which many domestic policies do not cover.
What is included:
- Housing (except Rikkyo and Sciences Po exchanges)
- Academic and cultural excursions led by the program
- Whole or partial board MAY also be included, depending on the program (consult program info)
What is not included:
- Airfare to and from the program. Depending on the program, group flights are sometimes available.
- Optional excursions and independent travel
- Books and incidental expenses. Students may contact program providers and/or returnees for information on estimates and budgeting.
How it is billed:
Students are billed through student accounts just as they would be billed for a semester on campus. Bills are sent out at the same time as they would be for a regular semester and are sent to billing address on file. If parents participate in a payment plan, they may want to look into adjusting payments due to differences in cost.
Financial Aid:
For students studying abroad during the academic year, all programs for direct credit through GEO are eligible for federal and Vanderbilt financial aid. This includes merit scholarships but excludes work study.
Students should talk to their financial aid officers to be clear on how this works.
Summer study abroad programs through GEO are NOT eligible for Vanderbilt financial aid (just as summer study on campus would not be).
Scholarships:
Students with study-abroad specific scholarships should speak to the administrator of the scholarship to ensure it is disbursed properly.
Students seeking scholarships to study abroad should check out www.iiepassport.org.
GEO has limited scholarshop opportunities, please check the Scholarships & Grants section of our website for more information.
For information regarding your student account, please visit the Vanderbilt Student Accounts Web page here.
