The attorneys and support staff in the Office of the General Counsel are located in 2100 West End Avenue, Suite 750. Audrey J. Anderson, the General Counsel, has her office in 305 Kirkland Hall.

Mission
The mission of the Office of General Counsel is to provide high quality legal services and to protect, advance and advocate the legal rights and responsibilities of The Vanderbilt University (which includes its Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Schools and Colleges, and wholly owned entities) in support of the University's teaching, research and service missions. The Office of General Counsel provides legal advice and counsel to the Board of Trust, administrators, faculty, staff, and student organizations and provides education to members of the University community to further the needs and best interests of the University. These responsibilities are fulfilled and coordinated by the Office of General Counsel or through attorneys retained by and accountable to the Office of General Counsel.

Our office works closely with Risk Management and the Compliance Office. Ms. Anderson is also responsible to the Office of the VU Board of Trust.

The Office of the General Counsel upholds the ideals of Vanderbilt University and its legal traditions. These traditions reflect the ideals of humane learning, the value of reason, and the significance of history in justifying laws. Law is, in many ways, the enactment of tradition. In honor of Vanderbilt's rich and growing history, we present a slideshow of historic photos from campus life.
