Rita Roberts-Turner is the Chief of Staff in the Office of the General Counsel, providing strategic and operational management of the Vice Chancellor's office. She serves as the primary liaison for and coordinates the activities of the Vice Chancellor and General Counsel within the University and the Nashville community.
Roberts-Turner received her B.A. in mass communications from Western Kentucky University. She worked as a general assignment reporter for the Nashville Banner before attending law school at Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Following graduation in 1998, she worked as an assistant public defender in Nashville. She later joined the Metropolitan Department of Law where her areas of practice included civil rights, employment, and personal injury law. She is admitted to practice in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. District Court (Middle District of Tennessee), and the Supreme Court of the United States.
In 2007, Roberts-Turner was appointed chief of staff for the Mayor's Office in Nashville, Tennessee. She served as the director of the Metropolitan Government's Human Resources Department prior to joining Vanderbilt University.
She is a member of the Nashville Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, and the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
