Call for Proposals for AmeriQuests
Special Issue: "Migration of Movement: Dance Across Americas"

AmeriQuests, a journal centered on all aspects of movement throughout the Americas, is pleased to announce its forthcoming issue entitled “Migration of Movement: Dance Across Americas.” Because AmeriQuests is on-line, the form that contributions take is limited only by existing technologies; as such, we welcome video, sound, hypertext and/or text, and the AmeriQuests team is equipped to work with authors to ensure smooth integration of different media into the contributions.
Although not limited to a particular set of objectives, we hope to address some of the following areas and concerns:
٠ Verticality of Dance
Is there a vertical history of dance? Does dance history grant special attention to the horizontal migration of dances and dance makers from west to east, or east to west? What is the longitudinal history of dance from north to south, or south to north? How can a vertical migration of dance shape its current history?
There is a second sense of vertical, indicating depth and rootedness, as in the verticality of digging one’s roots into a particular geographic location. How does one plant dancing roots? Does this practice affect the art making process? How does dance relate to the rootedness of a people?
٠ Dance your America:
America can extend beyond a geographical location and reflect the inner quest for the unattainable objective. In what ways have dance artists embraced their own “america.” How have they formed their own American Dream through dance? What is the “New World” of dance? How does dance relate to the study of America as an ideal or concept?
٠ Currents of Dance:
What are the confluences of dance across the Americas? How does dance follow a particular streams and current, and into what new landscapes does it come to flow? How do currents carve into existing landscapes to create new horizons for dance and dance makers? What points in space do these trends converge and diverge, and what pathways do they follow, and create?
We invite contributions from performers, choreographers, dance media artists, dance historians, performance theorists, community educators, dance ethnologists, in short anyone with experience or interest relating to dance in the Americas or dance toward “America”. Contributors should not feel confined by genre, discipline or format, but should rather create work for this journal that is well suited to the questions posed. We will accept submissions in an ongoing manner with a deadline of July 1, 2008. Because the electronic formation allows for ongoing editing and publishing the early version of this issue may appear before the final due date.
AmeriQuests is committed to supporting the work of individuals at all levels and all phases of their work, including students and those who are not habitually accustomed to working in a journal format. AmeriQuests is also committed to presenting current work in the many fields to which it contributes, so we would welcome book reviews, and reviews of recent performances or exhibits in the dance and movement realms.
