 Course Description: Financial Foundations Classroom Training (formerly eDog)
This course is designed for both University Central and VUMC employees who work with any General Ledger data, handle purchasing for their area, or review and/or reconcile the MD091 Report of Transactions for one or more centers in their area. This course is divided into sections that cover the basics of accounting at Vanderbilt (center numbers and account numbers); generating pre-created reports in eDog (with particular attention to the MD091 and Encumbrance reports); generating summary and detailed budget reports for your centers; generating labor reports in Waldo for monthly payroll reconciliation; reconciling all transactions for the MD091 report; and electronic signoff verifying the reconciliation. The class emphasizes using eDog as a part of your monthly financial review for your centers and covers reconciling your MD091 report with source transaction data to ensure the accuracy of your department´s ledgers.

Objectives
After training, students will be able to:
  • Explain, at a high level, the data that feed into the General Ledger.
  • Use Privilege Management to determine "who can do what" for a center or department (e.g., "who can give me access to eDog?").
  • Trouble-shoot questions regarding purchasing and payment using AP/PO reports.
  • Generate and interpret reports in eDog.
  • Reconcile the MD091 report with source transaction data for non-personnel transactions.
  • Reconcile the MD091 report with labor data from Waldo.
  • Create and submit a Journal Entry to correct any errors found when reconciling the MD091.
  • Complete the Electronic Signoff for monthly ledger review (this step applies to trainees who possess the eDog Transaction Approver privilege in addition to the eDog Viewer Privilege).
  • Medical Center only- create and set up a budget for your area using the eBudget tool.
Audience
University and VUMC employees who are responsible for budget review and analysis and monthly ledger review and reconciliation.
Prerequisites
Required:
  • You must possess the eDog Viewer privilege and have access to the AP/PO reports in InfoView before attending hands-on training. Consult with your departmental privilege administrator or business officer for more information on obtaining these privileges.

This series of classes is divided into 3.5-hour sessions. Register for individual sessions.
