The detector used to monitor the X-rays being produced in a high background radiation environment is described in this paper.  detector.pdf

Three-dimensional information can be obtained in a geometry of stationary X-ray source, patient and detector using pyrolytic graphite mosaic crystals as described in this manuscript.CT Imaging Using Monochromatic X-rays and Mosaic Crystals or in this more recent publication. Volumetric Monochromatic X-ray Tomography of the Lungs.

The Monochromatic X-ray project and the new device was the subject of  a feature article at the Vanderbilt University's Exploration website (online research journal of Vanderbilt University) in  October of 2001. http://exploration.vanderbilt.edu/home_fel.htm
