Get ready for Move-in Day—August 17

Dear parents,

For the Class of 2017, Move-in day is Saturday, August 17, and your student's first official day on campus introduces all of you to one of our great traditions at Vanderbilt. To start your Vanderbilt journey on the right foot, your student's move is highly structured and choreographed, which allows us to smoothly move in nearly 1,600 first-year students and their belongings into their new academic home in just five hours. About a thousand upperclass students volunteer for the Move Crew to help move their new classmates into their houses. They join a team of resident advisers, dining workers, members of the Vanderbilt Police Department, admissions officers, professional staff and faculty to keep you and your student in good, helping hands.

Students will receive their room assignments in mid-July. The assignment letter packet includes instructions and materials for moving in, suggestions on how to pack, when and where to ship packages, and maps for Move-in Day and Vanderbilt-area stores of interest. Also included in the packet is your assigned move-in time, which will be between 7 a.m. and noon Saturday, August 17. That morning, every half-hour, approximately 200 students and their families will arrive on campus to move in. Vehicles will be directed to staging areas by house, where students will pick up their room keys before the Move Crew helps unload vehicles and move your student's belongings directly to their rooms.

On behalf of everyone who works on Move-in Day, we look forward to meeting you
August 17.

Senior Director of Housing Operations

Departing Campus: One of the hardest parts of moving to college is saying goodbye. Parents and families should say their final goodbyes on Sunday morning, prior to the beginning of required orientation activities for first-year students only. Give your students the opportunity to begin to learn how to live on their own. Parents who want to learn more about this important transition in their families' lives may be interested in attending a special interactive dialogue with staff professionals on Sunday morning in the Wyatt Rotunda.

A reminder about
Vanderbilt Visions

Vanderbilt Visions , a required 12-week program during the fall semester, aims to ease students' transition from high school to college. Each first-year student is assigned to a small group led by a faculty member and an upperclass student, known as VUceptors. The groups, which meet weekly in the late afternoon or early evening, provide a safe setting for conversation and help connect students across different houses and undergraduate schools. Visions groups and scheduled times will be available on your student's Your Enrollment Services (YES) schedule in mid-July. Once groups are assigned, VUceptors will contact each of the students in their groups.
