Director Matthew Redd provides an overview of Commencement and answers your questions about the three-day event schedule: what to expect, accommodations, parking, accessibility options and key deadlines. This information session is not limited to senior parents. All undergraduate parents are encouraged to attend as many families begin planning 12-18 months out.

The Vanderbilt Psychological and Counseling Center will present a one-hour workshop about the developmental issues impacting decisions about substance use as well as a discussion about the biologic interaction of various substances on the body.

The Vanderbilt University Orchestra performs Frank Martin’s Concerto for Seven Wind Instruments, Timpani, Percussion and String Orchestra, featuring professors Allan Cox, trumpet; Bil Jackson, clarinet; Jared Hauser, oboe; Leslie Norton, horn; Jeremy Wilson, trombone; Philip dikeman, flute; Peter Kolkay, bassoon; and William Wiggins, percussion. Free and open to the public.
The Vanderbilt Wind Symphony’s program will include “Concertango” by composer Luis Serrano Alarcón, featuring saxophone professor Brian Utley. Verrier will be joined by distinguished guest conductor Richard Floyd, State Director of Music at the University of Texas at Austin and Artistic Director of the Austin Symphonic Band, for a portion of this program.

Fall for the Arts at The Martha Rivers Ingram Commons

Join us for a celebration of the arts—a day full of student dance, music and theater performances. Original artwork will be on display and for sale, and art demonstrations will take place throughout the day. Our best student writers and poets will be sharing their talents, and you’ll have a chance to take home your own masterpiece as well. The menu boasts mouth-watering chef-crafted offerings including grilled items, assorted salads, and desserts.

Step back in time and rediscover with your student who you were at 18 as a freshman in college. What were your goals and what has changed? Share your stories withyour student, other Vanderbilt parents, and staff from the Center for Student Professional Development. Event includes an interactive game and a Vanderbilt parent art project “Then & Now”. Join us for an evening of conversation, fun, and discovery!
Athenian Sing
7:30 – 8:45 p.m.
Langford Auditorium, Light Hall
This student-organized, campuswide talent show and competition was initiated by Dinah Shore in the late 1930s. Athenian Sing began as an a cappella singing contest among fraternities and sororities. The Athenians junior honor society now produces this event to highlight the campus’ premier performance groups.
Note: Tickets are $8. Tickets have been set aside for parents and are available through our office. Tickets will also be avialable via the Ticketmaster box office in Sarratt Student Center a month before the event.
