The Earl Sutherland Prize for Achievement in Research

The Earl Sutherland Prize for Achievement in Research was established in 1976 by action of the Board of Trust. It is awarded annually to a member of the Vanderbilt faculty whose achievements in research, scholarship, or creative expression have had significant critical reception and are recognized nationally or internationally. The prize consists of $5,000 and an engraved pewter julep cup. The winner's name is added to a silver bowl following a design by Paul Revere. The recipient keeps the bowl for one year.
