Resettlement

by Jacob Newberry

Forgive me sweet mother _____it is all so beautiful
___now that you are gone
they brought me to this broken city
_____walls the color of tempered steel
___electric lights burning always in the darkness
there is so much to believe
and I am ready

Ya ummi _____sometimes I am dreaming
and when I am dreaming the goats are calling
_______________only it is you
_________________and you are somewhere
___________in the Negev calling
but I do not regret this
you will forgive me
once the pulsing steady chamber
___of my memory is cleared
__________each morning
_____we have sunrise
_____indigo and crimson like it was and I am moving
___through the bright unhurried day
____your shadow falling everywhere
