ENGAGE Scholars Program

Early Notification of Guaranteed Admission for Graduate Education

students doing researchVanderbilt University is pleased to offer exceptional students interested in pursuing a graduate or professional degree after college graduation the opportunity to apply for the ENGAGE Scholars Program.

Created to connect our best undergraduates with the university's unique array of graduate and professional schools, ENGAGE Scholars receive conditional admission to the Vanderbilt graduate or professional school of their choice at the same time they are admitted as a Vanderbilt freshman.

This exciting opportunity allows highly motivated undergraduates to connect with Vanderbilt’s renowned graduate and professional programs in Medicine, Law, Management, Engineering, Nursing, Theology, and Education.  ENGAGE Scholars benefit from an identifiable connection with a mentor in their chosen field.

ENGAGE is one of the many ways in which Vanderbilt creates connections between undergraduate and graduate education. Faculty across the curriculum collaborate in over 100 interdisciplinary centers and institutes such as the Center for Medicine, Health, and Society and the Curb Center for Art, Enterprise, and Public Policy that offer unique research opportunities and affiliated coursework.  In addition, Vanderbilt undergraduates and graduates share many of the same facilities, like the Biological Sciences/Medical Research Building built jointly by the Department of Biological Sciences and the Vanderbilt Medical School to house shared laboratory and classroom space.

ENGAGE Scholars receive funding of up to $5000 for one summer study abroad or research experience after the sophomore year. This enrichment experience is offered to provide valuable practical or research experience in each student's chosen field. They enjoy the freedom and flexibility to explore the full range of Vanderbilt’s course offerings before formally beginning their graduate studies. Scholars must eventually meet the admissions criteria established by the desired graduate and professional school in order to secure enrollment, and are not bound to enroll in that school except in the case of the School of Medicine, where a binding agreement will be expected at the end of the sophomore year.

students working on robotics With its emphasis on a comprehensive education, ENGAGE is not designed to reduce the number of years required to graduate from an undergraduate or graduate program. Students interested in pursuing one of the combined “3-2” programs offered in Education, Nursing, Engineering and Business may work in consultation with their adviser to organize their curriculum of study with the programs in order to complete the requirements necessary for combined program options.

The ENGAGE Scholars program involves the following schools:
School of Medicine
School of Law
Owen Graduate School of Management
School of Engineering
School of Nursing (MSN)
Divinity School
Peabody College (Education and Human Development)

Interested students must submit a complete application for undergraduate admission by the appropriate deadline and a complete ENGAGE application by January 3 of the senior year. Applicants will be notified in March regarding their ENGAGE status.

Students who are not admitted to the ENGAGE Scholars Program as entering freshmen may apply again after the freshman year in every area except medicine, when the second opportunity to apply is offered at the end of the sophomore year.
