
The Divinity School is a part of one of the nations most prestigious universities. For generations, Vanderbilt University has distinguished itself as one of a few private universities with outstanding undergraduate programs and a full range of graduate and professional programs, all on the same campus. With a faculty of 1,800 full-time and more than 1,300 part-time members, Vanderbilts student body includes approximately 5,900 undergraduate and 4,300 graduate and professional students from all fifty states and seventy-five foreign countries.
While offering the excellent programs and facilities of a major research institution, the educational mission and moderate size of the University promote a feeling of closeness among the University community and emphasize the worth of the individual. Vanderbilt has undergraduate programs in liberal arts and sciences; cognitive studies, education, and human development; engineering; and music. Graduate and professional degrees are offered in all of thee disciplines, with the exception of music, as well as in law, business management, medicine, and nursing. Divinity School students may take advantage of courses offered in these other departments. The School of Medicine and the Medical Center are consistently recognized as among the countrys finest programs and facilities for education, research, and treatment.
The Universitys 190 buildings are situated on a 316-acre campus about one and one-half miles from the downtown business district, offering the advantages of an urban location with a peaceful, park-like setting of lawns, shaded paths, and quiet plazas. Vanderbilt is a member of the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta.
