::: VANDERBILT DANCE CONCERT ::: Thank you to all who participated in the concert, and to our invaluable audience members. Save the date for next year's concert on April 1, 2010 THURSDAY and FRIDAY, MARCH 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. Ingram Center for Performing Arts at the Blair School of Music $5.00 for students; $10.00 for general public Tickets will be available soon at the Sarratt Box Office or at the door on the night of the performances This spring's concert features works rooted in history as well as movement that charges into unknown territory. Tom Shoemaker will present his restaging of excerpts from Les Sylphides, the epitome of a romantic ballet; Matthew Christensen (formerly of Nashville Ballet) will present a contemporary ballet piece "Grafting," and Marsha Barsky's Compagnie Rose will share it's debut performance. Vanderbilt Dance Theater will present it's sophomore season: the deep simplicity of Sharon Perry's vision of tsunami survivors; Keith Fitzpatrick's damaged, yet jarringly precise "Post War," Kelvin Amburgey's soulful exploration of falling; and the delicate nuanced agony of Stacie Flood-Popp's "9 Crimes." Other highlights will include original work from Vanderbilt's Momentum Dance Group as well as from the Nashville Community; Nomi Eniafe's enlivening West African dance; as well as works by Tap expert Stephanie Hamilton, Belly Dance artist, Reischa Feuerbacher, and Bharatanatyam guru, Monica Cooley. Lithograph cir. 1840: Featuring famous romantic ballerina Marie Taglioni (furthest left) as La Sylphide ::: VANDERBILT DANCE THEATRE ::: You must be enrolled in an Intermediate/Advanced technique class with the Vanderbilt Dance Program in order to be part of the company. VDT is open to Vanderbilt Students, Undergraduate, and Professional, Vanderbilt Staff /Faculty, and to the Nashville Community. Performance opportunities are available in Ballet, Hip Hop, Modern/Contemporary, or Jazz. Vanderbilt Dance Concert will be Thursday and Friday, March 12 and 13, 2009, so you must be available to rehearse until then. CLICK HERE to find more information on Vanderbilt Dance Theatre.
::: CERTIFICATE in DANCE STUDIES ::: Please stay tuned for the dates of Certificate Informational Sessions as well as sample seminars. This program is currently ON HOLD until further notice. The Vanderbilt Dance Program Certificate in Dance Studies will be a 400-hour program for intermediate/advanced level students, 17 years or older. Combining the study of dance technique with dance academics, creative studies, choreography and pedagogy, the program is designed to complement a student's chosen degree at Vanderbilt University, or as an independent certificate program. ::: Vanderbilt Students: Upcoming Events for Student Dance Groups ::: VIBE VIDA Momentum Dance Group - Annual Dance Concert on April 1 at Ingram Center for Perfoming arts at the Blair School of Music.
