Dyer Star Party Science & Art Mashups

Rocky Alvey and Lynn McDonald, Dyer Observatory

Through this innovation grant, Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory brought their unique activities and equipment to campus six times (November – April) during the 2011-12 academic year. These exciting Art-Science Mashups, led by Dyer staff and astronomy graduate students, provide experiences in combining science and art in new, thought-provoking, and creative ways. Participants learn how to take pictures with a telescope, create sketches of celestial views, play the greatest musical instrument of all time (the sky) with AstroCantus, sing to the newly released science song album The Mighty Sky, and see wonders that will be remembered for a lifetime!
