Founded by recent Vanderbilt graduates and current enterprise fellows, Branden Sanders and Andrew King, Mellodi is the home of all music made by artists in college. Prior to their involvement with Mellodi, both Branden, a member of our inaugural class of Curb Scholars, and Andrew, an Economics major in the College of Arts & Sciences, collaborated on the development of Studio CRB, the student-run recording studio located right here in the Curb Center.
Operating as an online platform at www.themellodi.com, Mellodi is effectively the only music distribution service exclusively for students in the world. They allow students to add their own original music for free and allow anyone to stream the music for free. Their mission is to take a neglected and undervalued group of artists and give them an exciting platform for their musical projects to finally become visible and heard.
Their innovative localization strategy creates individualized music-based communities for each school’s artists complete with top charts, new releases, and fully curated selections titled “Campus Picks”. For the fans, Mellodi provides a glimpse into the lives of young, creative people and the institutions they are associated with. Passionate music fans have the opportunity to hear music they’ve never heard before from a demographic that tends to push boundaries and make forward-thinking creations. They currently have a page for artists at Vanderbilt, and are looking to debut a page for Belmont artists in the coming weeks, with more schools to follow thereafter.
