Elizabeth Long Lingo, 2007 Nashville Art Summit Report, The Curb Center
My involvement in synthesizing the data from the Nashville Arts Summit arose as part of a larger research study of “catalysts”–people who make things happen–in the Nashville creative community. I was introduced to Andy Van Roon, the organizer of the summit, who invited me to watch the process unfold from inception to its culmination. Outlined in this preface are my observations from the summit in light of the broader cultural policy dialogue and proliferation of cultural plans in cities across America. In particular, I focus on who might participate in a summit, what questions and issues guide discussion, and how the potential of a summit might be best realized.
