Dec. 9 - 13 Events: Entrepreneurship for Physicians, Risk Reduction Discussion, & Symposium for Surgery and Engineering

The week of Dec. 9 - 13 will be a busy one for Vanderbilt innovators and entrepreneurs with talks on entrepreneurial opportunities for physicians, risk reduction in life sciences companies, and a symposium on surgery and engineering. 

Entrepreneurship for physicians: You have a great idea, how to get it to market" by Fred T. Lee, Jr., M.D.

Monday, Dec. 9, from 12 - 1 p.m., in 202 Light Hall, visiting professor Fred T. Lee, Jr., M.D., will lead a session on entrepreneurial opportunities for physicians. Lee, a professor of radiology and the Robert A. Turrell Professor of Medical Imaging at the University of Wisconsin, will cover everything from inventing a medical device to transferring it to the marketplace. Lee will also share basic information on forming and financing a business. Faculty, residents, staff and medical students are invited. This session is sponsored by the Vanderbilt School of Medicine Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences. 

Best Practices in Risk Reduction for Life Science Companies featuring Frank Goudsmit

Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 7:30 - 9 am, Life Science Tennessee will host an Executive Breakfast featuring guest speaker Frank Goudsmit. Goudsmit will present "Best Practices in Risk Reduction for Life Science Companies".  Specific topics will include safety surveillance, sales and marketing, and clinical trial controls. Goudsmit will also discuss other life science property matters such as spoilage, contamination, scientific animals, R&D income, cyber liability/privacy, and data breach. Vanderbilt Surgery and Engineering Symposium

Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 3 - 7 pm, in Light Hall, the Vanderbilt Initiative in Surgery and Engineering (ViSE) and the Department of Surgery Research Collaborative will host the second annual Vanderbilt Surgery and Engineering Symposium. 

Nick Hopkins, Distinguished Professor of Neurosurgery, Professor of Radiology, State University of New York at Buffalo will give the keynote address, "Innovation in Vascular Care", starting at 4 pm in Room 208 of Light Hall. A poster session and social will follow in the North Atrium of Light Hall.
