Institute for Space and Defense Electronics

Vanderbilt is home to the largest program of its kind in the United States, It is the only academic program actively involved in support of the Department of Defense in radiation effects for strategic applications and is one of very few programs involved in microelectronics research for space applications. Institute for Space and Defense Electronics (ISDE) designs and analyzes radiation-hardened electronics and develops test methods and plans for assuring radiation hardness for government and commercial partners. It has an array of software tools for simulating radiation effects and designing integrated circuits, a high performance parallel computing cluster, several types of radiation sources, and extensive electrical characterization capability.
