| Women’s Tennis to Battle
Arkansas in SEC Tourney on Thursday 4/17/03 KNOXVILLE,
Tenn. – Following an intense workout on Wednesday afternoon
at the UT Varsity Courts, the 10th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s
tennis team is now set to begin its quest for a Southeastern
Conference Tournament championship. The tournament’s
fifth-seeded Commodores (17-4) will collide with the 12th-seeded
Lady Razorbacks (8-13) of Arkansas at 5 p.m. (EST) on the
campus the University of Tennessee.
The Commodores’ journey for their first illusive title
will be a difficult one, as they will have to win four dual
matches over the next four days to be crowned SEC Tournament
champions. The road to the title includes potential match-ups
with tournament host Tennessee, second-ranked Florida and
either Kentucky of Georgia. Vanderbilt went 1-3 against these
four teams during the regular season, but the three losses
were by scores of 4-3.
Vanderbilt and Arkansas squared off once during the 2003
regular season, which the Commodores won handily in Nashville,
7-0, back on March 30. The Commodores finished a perfect 6-0
against SEC Western Conference opponents. This was the second-straight
season Vanderbilt has finished with a perfect record against
Western Division teams.
