| Riske and Tsoubanos Honored as
ITA National Doubles Team of the Month 2/10/03
SKILLMAN,
N.J. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced that
Vanderbilt senior Sarah Riske (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township)
and junior Aleke Tsoubanos (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central)
were named the National Collegiate Doubles Team of the Month
for January.
Riske and Tsoubanos, who are ranked No. 2 nationally behind
Tulanes Julie Smekodub and Jenny Kuhn, are possibly
the hottest doubles team in the country. In the Commodores
nine dual matches so far this season, Vanderbilts top
doubles team has posted a perfect 9-0 mark. For the 2002-03
season, Riske and Tsoubanos are 18-1, while also winning the
Riviera/ITA All-American Championship in early October in
Pacific Palisades, Calif. The All-American Championship showcased
the top collegiate doubles teams from around the country.
Riske
and Tsoubanos, along with the rest of the Vanderbilt womens
tennis squad, return to action at 3 p.m. Saturday, February
15, against No. 24-ranked Georgia Tech at the Brownlee O.
Currey Tennis Center. The Commodores top duo enters next weekends
match riding a 13-match winning streak, which is a new Vanderbilt
womens tennis record. Riske and Tsoubanos set the previous
mark last season when they won 12-consecutive matches.
