Women's
Soccer Set to Host Duke, Honor Seniors 11/1/01
The
Vanderbilt women's soccer game will close out their regular
season with a 7:00 p.m. game Saturday night against Duke at
the Vanderbilt Soccer Field. The game will mark the final
time seniors Lindaliz Arauz and Jessie Wolfe will play on
their home field and both will be honored prior to the game.
A
native of Temple Trace, Fla., Arauz arrived at Vanderbilt
after a standout career at Berkeley Prep in Tampa. Over the
past four seasons, she has been one of the most consistent
and dependable defenders for the Commodores. Arauz has started
the last 73 contests for Vanderbilt and has played every minute
of her senior season, in which she has also served as a team
captain. She has twice been named second team All-SEC, and
once to the All-Central region team by the NSCAA. Arauz recorded
an assist in last year's 8-0 win over South Carolina.
Originally
from Albuquerque, N. M., Wolfe has served many roles for the
Commodores since coming to Nashville from La Cueva High School.
She spent her freshman season as a forward where she finished
fourth on the team in scoring. As a sophomore, she switched
to goalkeeper and still ranks in the Commodore career top
ten in saves, goals against average and shutouts. For her
junior and senior seasons, Wolfe returned to forward and has
been one of the Commodores' top scorers. For her career she
has 11 goals and six assists. Three of her goals have been
game-winning goals. In addition to her success on the field,
Wolfe has had success in the classroom, earning academic All-SEC
honors last season.
Over
the last four seasons, Arauz and Wolfe have helped the Commodores
to a 39-33-1 record, four SEC Tournament appearances and one
NCAA Tournament berth.
In
addition to recognizing this year's seniors, Vanderbilt will
present the David J. Elia 110 Award at halftime of the Duke
game. The award is named in memory of the father of former
Vanderbilt player, Kate Elia and recognizes the one Commodore
voted by her teammates who puts in the extra effort to be
the best player she can be and who continuously strives to
work for the betterment of her team.
Next
week, the Commodores will travel to Baton Rouge, La. for the
ninth annual SEC Tournament. Play will begin on Thursday and
continue through Sunday.
