Lewis Earns NSCAA Third-Team All-Central
Region Honors
Junior Joins Four SEC Players in Earning Regional Honor
NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - Junior midfielder Jennifer Lewis (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood
Christian) picked up her second postseason honor following
the 2002 season, as she earned Third-Team All-Central Region
honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Lewis was one of five Southeastern Conference players to be
named to either the first, second or third teams.
Lewis was named to the All-SEC First Team following a solid
season in the midfield for the Commodores. She was one of
four Vanderbilt players to start and play in all 16 games.
Lewis recorded two goals and one assist during the season
and was third on the team with 41 shots. Over her first three
seasons, she has tallied eight goals and six assists while
being one of the key components to the Vanderbilt midfield.
One of Lewis highlights this season came against then
No. 21-ranked Tennessee, who eventually won the SEC regular
season and tournament championships, back on October 11. Less
than six minutes into the contest, Lewis scored from around
30 yards out to give the Commodores the lead - one they would
not relinquish. The win also gave Vanderbilt a victory over
a ranked opponent for the eighth-consecutive season.
Other SEC players to be recognized were Tennessees
Keeley Dowling (first team), Rhian Wilkinson (second team),
Mississippis Kristen Menard (second team) and Kelly
Renie (second team).
