Commodores
Fall to Gators in SEC Home Opener 10/4/02
The
return home was unkind as the Commodores fall 2-0 to the Gators
Friday night at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex in the SEC home
opener. Florida improves to 4-6-1, 1-1 as Vanderbilt falls
to 2-6, 0-2.
The
Gators' forward Robin Fulton was able to squeak the first
goal in off a rebound from Vanderbilt keeper Esther Thompson
at 30:53 in the first half. The second Florida goal was scored
by Meghan McMillian at 56:55 as she blasted a shot past Thompson
in the far corner. The third and final goal came off a penalty
kick by Danielle Murphy at 76:57.
The 'Dores best chances both came in the second half. Early
in the second, the Commodores watched Erin Higgins' shot slowly
roll wide after a rebound from goalkeeper Jordan Kellgren.
Kellgren was at the center of the other opportunity as Kat
Carroll wrestled away a loose ball in the box and put a strong
shot on goal that nailed the right post.
The
Commodores return to action Sunday afternoon at 1 pm at the
Vanderbilt Soccer Complex to face the South Carolina Gamecocks.
