Soccer Falls To Southern California, 2-0 9/13/02
WINSTON-SALEM,
N.C. - The Vanderbilt womens soccer team dropped its
opening game of the Wake Forest/adidas Invitational Friday
evening to the University of Southern California. With the
loss, the Commodores fall to 1-2 on the season, while the
Women of Troy move their record to 2-2-1.
The Commodores will look to get back on the winning track
when they take on Loyola Marymount University at 11 a.m. (EST)
Sunday in Winston-Salem, N.C. Loyola Marymount fell to Wake
Forest Friday evening, 2-0.
Both Vanderbilt and USC battled to scoreless draw in the first
half. The Women of Troy outshot the Commodores 5-4 through
the first 45 minutes. Southern California got on the board
first in the 51st minute when Ali Fennell scored on her only
shot of the evening. USC put the game on ice in the 70 th
minute when Jessica Edwards put one in the back of the net.
Edwards goal also came on her only shot of the game.
Vanderbilt outshot USC 13-11 for the contest, but was not
able to put a shot in the back of the net. Midfielder Molly
Wilson led the Commodores with seven shots. Goalkeeper Esther
Thompson finsihed with three saves for Vanderbilt.
