BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Vanderbilt women’s soccer team kicked off a gruelling six-game roadtrip with a convincing 4-2 victory over Alabama-Birmingham Thursday evening at West Campus Field. Vanderbilt went into the locker room with a 3-0 lead after forward Jen Talavera picked up a loose ball inside the UAB box and slid it by UAB goalkeeper Lisa Nowoslawski.

Despite trailing 3-0 heading into the second half, the Blazers did not give up. In the 63rd minute, UAB got on the board when Jennifer Calalang received a cross from Jana Brauer and slid the ball past Vanderbilt goalkeeper Lauren Whitt. UAB kept the pressure on Vanderbilt, and in the 72nd minute UAB struck again. This time Brauer got into the scoring category, as she scored off a corner kick from Briana McCarty.
