VANDERBILT WOMENıS SOCCER PICKS UP 1-0 WIN OVER INDIANA
Sept. 5, 1999
Vanderbilt junior Asta Helgadottir connected on a goal to help the Commodore
women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Indiana in the Ellis Copy Tiger
Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri this afternoon.
With the win, VU improved to 2-2 on the year and rebounded from a 3-0 loss to No. 15 Michigan in the Invitational on Friday.
Helgadottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) scored the lone goal of the match 25
minutes into the game off an assist from freshman Kat Carroll (Brentwood,
Tenn.). It was Carroll's first career goal as a Commodore. Helgadottir
also led the team with four shots on goal.
VU goalkeeper Jessie Wolfe made two saves for the Commodores and recorded her second shutout of the season.
The Commodores had the upper hand in the match with 19 shots, 10 of them on goal, while the Hoosiers only managed eight. VU also had more scoring opportunities, dominating Indiana, 10-3, in corner kicks.
Vanderbilt remains on the road and begins Southeastern Conference play next weekend. On Friday, Sept. 10, VU meets South Carolina. The Commodores then travel to Gainesville, Florida to take on the Florida Gators on Sunday, Sept. 12 in a game that will be televised live on FOX Sports South Net at 1:30 p.m. CT.
