TALAVERA SCORES TO HELP VANDERBILT DEFEAT ARKANSAS, 1-0Oct. 24, 1999
Freshman forward Jen Talavera scored in the 75th minute of play to give the Vanderbilt women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville, Ark. With the win, Vanderbilt secured a spot in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by the Commodores, Nov. 4-7. VU now owns a 8-9 overall record and ended SEC play with a 6-3 record. Vanderbilt outshot the Razorbacks, 14-10. The match was tied at the half, 0-0. The only goal of the game wouldn't be scored until the 75th minute. Talavera kicked in the game-winner from 16 yards out off a pass from Kelly Kulsrud. It was the eighth goal of the season for Talavera and her third game-winner this year. For Kulsrud, it was her first score as a Commodore. Goalie Jessie Wolfe made two saves for Vanderbilt and came up with her fourth shut out in 1999. Vanderbilt ends its season this Friday, Oct. 29 against SMU at 7 p.m. VU's seniors will be honored that night.
