Zuzi Klimesova Selected to WBCA All-Star
Team WBCA All-Star Challenge to Feature Nation's Premier Senior
Collegiate Players 3/5/02
Vanderbilt
senior forward Zuzi Klimesova is one of 20 senior collegiate
players selected to the WBCA All-Star Team. Zuzi is coming
off a Most Valuable Player performance at the 2002 Southeastern
Conference Tournament where she helped lead the Commodores
to the tournament title.
The All-Stars will take on the USA National
Team March 30 (Saturday) as part of the NCAA Final Four festivities.
The game will be played at the Convocation Center on the campus
of University of Texas at San Antonio. Tipoff is set for 4
pm CT. The All-Star Challenge Roster could change if any of
the players' teams make the Final Four. In that case, they
will not be able to participate in the contest.
The WBCA All-Star team is comprised top 17 senior
NCAA Division I players, voted on by Division I Head Coaches,
and the NCAA Division II, III and NAIA Players of the Year.
Klimesova is joined by Connecticut's Sue Bird,
Swin Cash and Tamika Williams; Oklahoma's Stacey Dales and
La'Neishea Caufield; Baylor's Sheila Lambert and Danielle
Cockrom; Florida's Brandi McCain and North Carolina's Nikki
Teasley. Also joining the team are UNLV's Linda Frohlich;
South Carolina's Shaunzinski Gortman; Purdue's Kelly Komara;
Stanford's Lindsey Yamasaki; Tennessee's Michelle Snow, Louisiana
Tech's Ayana Walker and Iowa State's Angie Welle.
Team USA will be coached by Van Chancellor (Houston
Comets) and feature Olympians Chamique Holdsclaw (Washington
Mystics); Sheryl Swoopes (Houston Comets); Lisa Leslie (Los
Angeles Sparks); DeLisha Milton (Los Angeles Sparks); Dawn
Staley (Charlotte Sting); and Natalie Williams (Utah Starzz).
"The WBCA and USA Basketball are extremely
pleased to bring the best women's basketball players in the
world together for this special game," said WBCA CEO
Beth Bass. "This will be the only game in which USA Basketball
takes on collegiate players during its Spring Training schedule.
What better time and place than in San Antonio when the Women's
Final Four is happening? The All-Star Challenge has traditionally
been a fan favorite. But USA Basketball's participation will
clearly strengthen the appeal of this year's game.

Last year's WBCA All-Star Challenge at Washington University
in St. Louis, Mo., was a sellout.
Founded in 1981, the Women's Basketball Coaches
Association promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches
at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport
and to foster and promote the development of the game in all
of its aspects as an amateur sport for women and girls. For
