Anderson Named SEC Player of the Week 12/3/01
Vanderbilt's
Chantelle Anderson has been named the Southeastern Conference
Player of the Week.
Anderson,
last season's nation-leading field goal percentage shooter,
helped lead the Commodores to a 3-0 record for the week averaging
25.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots a game with
wins over Xavier (78-56), Wisconsin-Milwaukee (79-64) and
James Madison (90-44).
For
the week, she was 32 for 42 from the field for a 76.2 percentage
averaging just over a field goal a minute (averaged 30 minutes
a game). She was 15-18 from the field on the road vs. Wisconsin-Milwaukee,
including 1-1 from 3-point range. She hit 12 consecutive shots,
capped by a 3-pointer from the top of the key, before missing
her first shot at the 15:14 mark in the second half. In back-to-back
games (Xavier/Wisconsin-Milwaukee), she hit 19 consecutive
shots which is one shy of her record 20 consecutive shots
set last season. She was 11-15 from the field vs. Xavier for
a 73.3 field goal percentage. She totaled a season-high three
blocked shots vs. Xavier and James Madison.
She
has made at least half her shots in 23 consecutive games,
dating back to last season and has scored in double figures
in 25 consecutive games - the longest streak in her career.
She is currently in 9th place on the VU All-Time Scoring List
with 1,458 points.
This
is the first SEC Player of the Week honor for Anderson. Teamate
Zuzi Klimesova was named SEC Player of the Week on Nov. 19.
