FORT WORTH, Texas (AP)- Tricia Payne scored 21 points, including
five 3-pointers, as TCU beat No. 9 Vanderbilt 70-53 Saturday
night.
The Lady Frogs (5-5) picked up their first victory against
a ranked team since beating Penn State in the 2001 NCAA tournament.
They had lost four games against ranked teams this season.
The Commodores (7-2) came into the game leading the nation
in field-goal percentage but shot just 39 percent (19-of-49)
and committed 20 turnovers.
The Lady Frogs led 34-21 at halftime and put the game away
with a 12-0 spurt for a 52-25 cushion with 14:21 left. Payne

scoreless for nearly seven minutes to turn a 4-2 deficit into
a 17-4 lead. Sandora Irvin's putback and Candace Baldwin's
layup capped the run.
Payne became the fifth player in TCU history to score 1,000
points in her career. She now has 1,010 points.
