The Vanderbilt women's basketball team opened the Melanie
Balcomb era Saturday afternoon with a 68-51 victory at Boston
University. The Commodores improve to 1-0 while the Terriers
fall to 0-1.
Despite taking on an unranked team, the No. 8 Commodores
trailed 23-22 at halftime. Showing the poise that has led
Vanderbilt to consecutive Elite Eight appearances, the Commodores
outscored Boston 46-28 in the second half to claim the 17-point
victory.
Leading the way for the 'Dores was junior Jenni Benningfield
who tallied a team high 16 points and a game high 13 rebounds.
Earning top honors for the Terriers was Katie Terhune, who
finished with a game high 20 points.
Vanderbilt continues its two-game road trip Tuesday night
at 6 pm against Syracuse.
