The No. 8/6 Vanderbilt Commodores moved to 16-3 on the season, and 2-1 in the Southeastern Conference as they defeated Mississippi 62-42 Sunday at Memorial Gym.

The Commodores opened the game missing five of their first eight field goals as Ole Miss led 12-6 early in the game. However, Vanderbilt ended the first half with a 20-2 run to take a 13 point lead into halftime, 30-17. In the second half, the two teams traded baskets and the closest the Rebels could get was within 10 points as Vanderbilt eventually pulled away for the 20 point victory.

Chantelle Anderson lead Vanderbilt with 16 points. Ashley Earley and Zuzi Klimesova each added 14 points, while Abi Ramsey came off the bench to score 11 points for the Commodores. Ole Miss (9-7, 1-2 SEC) was led by Amber Watts' 10 points.

Vanderbilt will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Alabama.

"Ole Miss did what they thought they had to do to win the game. They didn't want to run with us. We were patient, but could have been more aggressive. We had a great defensive effort for the fourth game in a row."

"Ashley Earley has learned a lot this season. Coming into college and playing in the SEC is different. She can score off the bounce and has made a real contribution to our team."

Vanderbilt Center Chantelle Anderson:

"We started off slowly before we woke up. Zuzi showed her senior leadership. She got us in the huddle and yelled at us, and that got us turned around."

"Someone wrote that I couldn't rebound. I don't like it when someone tells me I can't do something."

"We didn't try to slow down the pace as much as it appeared. We knew it would take a complete effort to come in here and win."

"We started off well and hit some shots early. We played hard defensively and tried not to give them any open looks. We wanted to make them earn it and they did."
