VANDERBILT
HEAD COACH JIM FOSTER:
On being down by eight in the second half:
We schedule tough games on the road because of our league
and this (Temple) is a great team. With a 30-second clock,
the game is never over. Our bench energized us tonight. We
were a little flat-footed, but when Colli (Juli) and Earley
(Ashley) came in, that really energized our defense.
On
returning to his alma mater:
Temple is one of the few schools that accepted me. It was
a great place for me to go to college and pursue what I wanted
to do. They gave me an opportunity to coach basketball.
On
Temple:
They play hard. Their offense was better today than earlier
in the season and Dawn has done a great job. I have always
been in favor of tough schedules and I respect coaches who
understand that is important.
On
Ashley Earley's play in 19-0 run:
Ashley Earley is a talented player. She can score off the
bounce - we can shoot 3-s and post up, and for her to come
in and do what she did, that really helped our basketball
team. When your team is effective on offense and shots aren't
falling, you are in for a long night. Our defense energized
us in the second half today.
TEMPLE
HEAD COACH DAWN STALEY:
They (Vanderbilt) are a great team. They read defenses really
well. We did a good job and our first 20 minutes were great,
but you can't hold a great team down for 40 minutes. I was
hoping they had an off night.
On
3-Point Shooting:
We started to penetrate the zone, but we settled for outside
shots. When we did, we got success out of that. Those 3's
weren't plays we designed but sometimes you have to let players
play - but that probably hurt us in the second half.
